Gratitude amongst the Craziness
I've experienced extreme anxiety to the point of ridiculousness when trying to choose an outfit before an event. So much so that I'm embarrassed to admit that the thought of just not going has often seemed like a good option. The barrage of self loathing and insecurity is a nightmare and truly terrible for the soul. It may sound petty and I can just imagine anyone male shaking his head at this point but I know I'm not alone.
I was chatting to a client recently and she completely related to the experience but her advice was so profound and SPOT ON.. that I had to share it with you all. She spoke about the concept of gratitude. Of being in the middle of a storm of anxiety and stopping for a moment to find something to be grateful for. The next time you're stressing about what to wear before an important meeting.. flip the anxiety on it's head and appreciate that you are part of an important meeting. Or if you're getting dressed for a date and you're panicking because everything looks wrong.. Take a second to appreciate the fact that you're going on date! There is someone special that wants to spend time with you. By shifting your focus from everything that is "wrong" about you to the amazing things that you have made happen in your life you will shut down the negativity and the anxiety will abate.
This might be a little profound for a Thursday morning but it's coming up to the weekend and if I can spare anyone tears during getting ready to go out.. mission accomplished.
